What is Facebook verification?

Facebook verification is the process of getting your Facebook Page verified. The verified blue badge on a Page means that Facebook has confirmed that the profile does, in fact, belong to a particular public figure, creator, or brand — rather than a fan or impersonator.

Verified badges on Facebook (and Instagram) appear next to the Page or account’s name, both on the profile page and in search.

For instance, not to brag, but we have our Facebook page verified with the blue badge.

How to verify your Facebook Page

The process of getting verified on Facebook is different for business Pages and personal profiles.

Note that you need to fill out the same form linked below if you wish to verify a personal profile (as a public figure or celebrity). Additionally, you’ll be asked to upload a copy of your official government-issued photo identification such as a passport or driving license.

Here we describe the steps to verify a Facebook Business Page.

Step 1: Head over to the verification request page

To get considered for Facebook verification, you’ll need to fill out and submit this request form.

As this is for a business Page, select Page under Verification type.

Next, click the Select Page to verify drop-down to find your business Page on the list. Note that you need to sign in as an admin of the Business Manager account to submit this form.

Step 2: Select the right category for your account

Categorizing your account correctly is important because it helps Facebook establish if you have relevant influence in a certain industry to warrant verification. So make sure to select the right category and the country your business operates out of.

Step 3: Attach identifying documents

Facebook needs rock-solid proof that you are exactly who you say you are. So the next step is to upload pictures of identifying documents.

As you can see above, for a business Page verification, you’ll need to attach a copy of your company’s phone or utility bill, certificate of formation, articles of incorporation, or tax exemption documents.

Step 4: Explain why you’re pursuing verification

This is a critical step in receiving the blue verification badge from Facebook. You must provide a compelling reason for why you’re seeking verification.

Here are some sample reasons why your business need to get verified on Facebook:

  • We have a large following across multiple platforms, and there are many fan accounts. We need our audience to instantly know that this is the official account so there’s no confusion.
  • As a renowned business publication, we’ve been featured in several media outlets and considered an expert in our niche. Verifying our Facebook account will help us maintain credibility and help our audience find us easily.
  • We’re a large corporation with many franchise branches and verifying the core brand account will help our customers view it as the central source of branded information.

To boost your odds of getting verified, be specific about how the blue badge could benefit both your business and Facebook’s users.

Step 5: List your other social media accounts and add comments

Link to your other social media accounts. Perhaps your business is verified on Twitter, so you can leverage that verification on Facebook, too.

Feel free to add any additional comments that you’d like Facebook to consider at this point.

Step 6: Send the request and wait for a decision

Finally, review all the information you’ve entered, and when you’re ready, click Send.

Then, you wait. Facebook says: “Once we review your request, you’ll receive a notification letting you know if your account has been verified or not. If your request is denied, you can submit a new request after 30 days.”

There’s no particular timeframe in which you can expect to hear back. You could get a response within 48 hours, or it could take 45 days or longer.

Verification for large multinational businesses and corporations may take longer, as Facebook’s team may need to dig deeper to manually review the supporting documents to confirm the claim is authentic.

If you get rejected, supply additional information that you think may help in your next attempt.
